The problem is the vast majority of people using some sob story to beg for
money on Usenet are not genuine. They are mostly criminals, con men,
scammers and opportunists who seek to prey on good, simple innocent and
overly trusting souls (IOW the gullible).
These people are scum they are the sort of people who would quite happily
steal from a child or and old person, or steal your identity to empty your
bank account or destroy your credit rating by running up huge debts on
stolen credit cards in your name, some of them would even kill or injure you
to steal a few pennies from their pocket, wallet or purse. They really don't
give a toss they don't care whether you are dead or permanently crippled
they'd quite happily stab you or throw acid in your face.
Such people have no conscience, no morals and are totally devoid of basic
humanity, unfortunately such individuals are hardly worthy of being called
human. let alone being worthy of pity. The World would be a better place if
such people were never born. They deserve to die in any case and in the past
we used to hang such people.
Knowing that to be the case would a genuine person use such a method to ask
for help? Somehow I don't think so. Genuine charity appeals usually have
some evidence of their credibility such as a Web site, a proper name and
address and are usually run on behalf of someone, or at the very least have
some credible third party endorsement. They don't usually entail some
anonymous opportunist simply asking for money on the basis of some most
likely bogus sob story.
